Annual Meeting 2007 - Saarbruecken

Saarbruecken, Germany, Feb 8th, 2007. The 3rd annual meeting of Nano2Life (N2L) will take place on 19th - 21st March 2007 in Saarbrücken, Germany, and is hosted by the NanoBioNet cluster.

N2L is a European Network of Excellence funded by the EU with the goal to establish a European reference centre in nanobiotechnology. This meeting will focus on activities towards this goal and identify common research projects. Technology transfer and cooperation are important parts of the network’s activities, strongly welcoming industry participation and SME’s respectively.

Impact on the European science community:

N2L scientists are involved in numerous European cooperations providing expert knowledge to the EU or other political stakeholders. As for the FP7, the EU mentions the impact of such organisations in their work programme 2007: "In preparing this work programme, the Commission has relied on advice from a wide range of consultations, including from the European Technology Platforms and from specific advice of a series of advisory groups”.

A wide participation in activities like the "ETP on Nanomedicine”, the "ESF Forward look report on Nanomedicine” and the "Nano Roadmap Project (NRM)” is therefore a strategic decision to help structuring the European research area.

Industry Relations: Building Tomorrow’s Nanobiotechnology:

Translating science into economic benefits fosters the implementation of technology from cutting-edge academic institutions to key industry sectors such as health, environment, and security. During the annual meeting different talks, sessions, exhibitions, and other activities are planned to encourage the cooperation between industry and research institutions. SME`s are Nano2Life preferred partners, as they serve as efficient and flexible interfaces between academic research and the demands of industry.

To date N2L has more than 40 industrial partners and the network has catalyzed over 20 joint projects between partners from academia and industry.

In short, by directing/combining academic research goals with industrial needs in mind, N2L is the "one-stop-shop" for nanobiotechnological solutions for challenges in medical, environmental and food industries.
